World’s First Traffic Light Installed 101 Years Ago Today
August 5, 2015 | in Defensive Driving Online, news
The average driver will spend two whole weeks of their life just waiting at traffic lights. But despite the minor inconvenience, can you imagine how chaotic the roads would be without them? Today is the 101st anniversary of the installation of the very first traffic light–something that changed driving forever.
The very first electric traffic signal was installed on this day in 1914, in Cleveland Ohio, at the corner of 105th and Euclid. It transformed traffic flow for decades to come, and probably saved the lives of countless policemen who would otherwise have remained the sole traffic conductors.
Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the invention, so check it out!
