Take Your Florida Traffic School Courses Online Now
January 12, 2011 | in Driver Safety For You & Your Family
Traffic school has several benefits for Floridians. Not only does it allow a reduction of points, but students who complete an online traffic school course may receive discounts for auto insurance (always check with your provider to confirm your discount). Often, we receive many questions about point reduction.
Today we will address a very important question: “How do I take Basic Driver Improvement for point reduction?”
- If you receive a citation, check with the Clerk of Court in the county where the citation was issued for eligibility of point reduction.
- Any persons, except for those who hold a CDL, that receive a moving violation or non-moving violation resulting in points may take a driver improvement course. Criminal violations are exempt from point reduction eligibility.
- Pay a civil fee to the Traffic Division of the Clerk of Court in the county where you received your citation.
If you complete a Basic Driver Improvement course, your insurance rates cannot go up and your policy cannot be canceled because of this violation, unless this involved a crash where you were at fault.
Additionally, points may not be added to your driver license record, adjudication of guilt is withheld, and safe driver status is maintained if applicable.
Important note: You may not make an election under this subsection if you have made this election in the preceding 12 months. A person may make no more than five elections in a lifetime.
