Road Trip
August 3, 2010 | in Driver Safety For You & Your FamilyThe recession is still here. Government budgets are under siege. The word has gone out….write tickets!!
I recently returned from a driving excursion to and from the Georgia coast & Texas. Not one time along the trip did I feel comfortable doing anything more than 5 mph over the speed limit. Cops, troopers, highway patrol, call them what you will, they are incredible revenue generators for their states right now.
My kids started playing a game…how many cops do we see in each state? Florida won hands down….25 cops either shooting radar or had someone pulled over. That’s crowded for 350 miles of highway. Louisiana was a close second at 14 cops on 260 miles of highway. Every now and then someone would go past us at about 80, then within a few minutes we’d see them pulled over. In all my years of driving, I have never seen the highways this heavily patrolled.
I kept thinking about the increased business potential for Florida traffic school courses and driving safety schools throughout the south. But then again, once you complete those courses there is always the likelihood of some discounts for auto insurance.
So when you take your next trip, consider keeping the cruise control set, sit back and enjoy the drive. No need to get the frustrating experience of receiving a ticket.
