Florida Defensive Driving Course

A common practice in the world of traffic court has been done away with. It used to be when you got a ticket and took a driver safety course, you only had to pay a partial fine. Back in 2009, Florida lawmakers changed a section of Florida Statute 318.15 eliminating discounts for drivers who attended traffic school.
Rick Silverman, a Tampa traffic attorney, explained that “They gave that discount to make sure the individual wasn’t being punished extra on top of just paying the civil penalty, so they gave the discount to cover part if not all of the traffic school fee, but that discount doesn’t exist anymore”.
So those of you out there debating on whether or not to to take a Florida approved traffic school course or just pay the fine, the courts have decided for you: do both. The only upside of the situation is discounts for auto insurance and you get a point reduction to hopefully prevent a suspended license.
