5 Ways to Make Your Daily Commute More Bearable

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Defensive Driving Online

If you have a daily commute, it can sometimes be frustrating to think about the wasted time that you spend on the road each day. But if you are smart, it doesn’t have to be a waste–there are actually tons of things that you can do each day on your commute to and from work. Here are a few ideas.

music music music

The first and most obvious choice is to blast some music and have a karaoke session in your car. You can practice your vocals, learn the lyrics to your favorite songs, or conduct a symphony in your mind. If you don’t like music, you can listen to talk radio or sports broadcasts.

listen to a podcast

Podcasts are everywhere right now, and they are a great free way to pass the time behind the wheel. There are a lot out there, so we sifted through them for you–you can check out our list of podcasts to listen to right here.

pick up an audiobook

If you want something a little deeper than a podcast, try out an audiobook. The frustrating part about driving to work, as opposed to public transport, is that you cannot use your hands and eyes for something like reading a book. Audiobooks solve this problem, and though they used to cost a lot of money, you can now get monthly subscriptions that are quite affordable.

learn a language

Another way to pass the time, in a more productive way, is to learn a language. Obviously you will have to practice reading and writing your chosen language at another time. But you can listen to audio while you drive and use the absence of an audience to practice out loud.

mentally prepare or wind down

Sometimes the work day can be really stressful, and the best thing about a daily commute is the extra time that it gives you each day. Rather than thinking of this as extra time out of your day, think of it as a gift, and use it to mentally prepare for the work day, or even wind down after work. It will help your life be that much more stress free.
