3 Easy Tips for Saving Money on Car Insurance
September 22, 2015 | in Defensive Driving Online, Everyday Driver
The internet is full of tips for saving on car insurance, but how do you know which ones actually work? It would be an understatement to say that some advice online is not 100 percent trustworthy, and there are a lot of myths that float around; as a result, it can be difficult to know exactly which advice you can trust. That is why we’ve brought you these three essential tips for saving on car insurance, and cut the rest. Three might not seem like much, but if you follow them you can’t go wrong.
1. Shop for new quotes annually
Shopping around for the best quote is essential–and if you don’t shop around, you cannot save. However, a lot of people don’t realize that you should still be shopping around even when you already have coverage. Once a year, before your current plan expires, go online, look at some comparison sites, and see if you could be getting a cheaper premium than your current provider is offering. Despite what they may claim, most insurance companies don’t reward loyalty, and you’ll find that it’s much better to switch.
2. Aim for quantity
And when you’re shopping around, it’s important to get as many different quotes as possible. Quantity is important here–if you are only hitting a few of the biggest insurance providers, you may be missing out on really good deals from other companies. When you do your yearly insurance shop, try to get at least 12 different quotes to choose from.
3. Get those discounts
The most common insurance myths center around different “discounts” that are available. However, there are certain ways to knock a few dollars off of your premium. For example, if you are a homeowner, or want renter’s insurance, or other insurance, there are a lot of companies that will offer “bundles,” which will save you money due to having multiple plans with one company. If you have gone through a major life change, such as getting married, you may also be able to save money.
