Texting and driving is an issue everywhere. In those few seconds you take to look down at your phone, often your eyes are off the road long enough for you to cover the distance of an entire football field. Europe has plenty of issues with texting and driving, but it’s even worse in the United States. In fact, 69% of U.S. drivers ages 18-64 years old say they have used their cell phone while driving within the 30 days. Texting while driving makes a crash up to 23 times more likely. The bottom line is this: texting and driving is an epidemic and it needs to be stopped.
The Texting and Driving Test
As part of an experiment in a driving safety course in Belgium, drivers were asked to navigate fairly simple obstacles while sending text messages. The results are shocking.
Don’t Text and Drive
The moral of the story is this: texting and driving is much more dangerous than you think. The next time you’re tempted to pull your phone out while behind the wheel, remember that no text message conversation is more important than your life or the life of another on the road. Be smart. Don’t text and drive.
