Police in Connecticut are Stopping Break-Ins by Doing Them Themselves

Police in New Haven, Connecticut, are adopting a slightly unorthodox new method to decrease the number of thefts from parked vehicles. Following a spate of recent break-ins, police are taking valuable items out of unlocked cars and holding them for safe keeping.

The aim of this new practice is to prevent thieves from getting a hold on valuable items, but also to teach residents a valuable lesson about locking their vehicles–and not leaving valuables in plain sight–throughout this holiday season.

While some have questioned the ethics of such a practice, what the police are doing is completely legal, and will be accompanied by a note to inform the owner of the vehicle as to how they can retrieve their valuables.

Do you think the practice should be adopted elsewhere? Let us know on Facebook. If you want to read more about this story, check out the full article on NBC Connecticut.
