Road trip season is here once again. And once again people across the country are loading up their cars and heading off down the open road. If you plan it right, a road trip can be the most fun you can have on a vacation. But how do you plan it right? Last year, we went over some of the best apps for a road trip, and we are doing the same again this year. Read on and see which ones made the cut!
roadtrippers
This free app is described as the “ultimate US travel companion” by its creators. And when you take a browse through its various features, it is difficult to disagree. You can use it to put together your trip itinerary, planning out routes and details, and even save it for offline use–making it useful for those parts of the road trip with spotty or no service. The main thing that sets this app apart from the others is its price tag–a nice zero dollars.
along the way
Another similar app, Along the Way, has a slightly simpler interface, but will cost you $2.99 to purchase. The creators of this app realize that much of the joy of a road trip comes in the journey–and they allow you to plan yours with that in mind. It will offer you plenty of fun places to see and restaurants to eat in along the way, even allowing you to check the most popular FourSquare locations on the way.

If you would rather plan your road trip as you travel, Hotel Tonight is a great app for finding last minute deals on hotels in your current location. You can browse deals and even book a hotel room with a few taps on the app.
