Driver Age and Crashes
August 20, 2010 | in My Kind of DrivingOn my way home from work I was almost side swiped by an elderly woman who had no business driving in the first place. There has been lots of public service announcements about texting and driving and distracted driving aimed at teens. A large population of drivers have been discounted in the distracted driving realm: Elderly Drivers. While teens are distracted by things in the vehicle older drivers are distracted by things on the outside of the car. The elderly woman who almost took out my truck said she didn’t see me because
she was focused on finding the street sign for her daughters house. She’s taken defensive driving courses in Texas before to get discounts for auto insurance but never has she taken one for mature driving, a course designed for drivers over a certain age to help them adjust to today’s driving. I told her I am an employee of a defensive driving school and
I highly recommend that she looks into using one of our State approved defensive driving courses. We have a traffic school for Florida as well as Texas. Also informed her that she could watch our safety driving video or she could read
about safety driving. I hope she heeds my warnings.
